Rrrriiinnng. What? It can't be. 6:frickin45 AM. I just went back to sleep about an hour before the phone rang. "We'll be delivering your refrigerator in 10 minutes, empty your old one please". Not even sure he said please.
We were told last night the delivery would be between 7AM and 11AM...I tried to have it changed to an afternoon slot saying we had health problems....as if Ms officious delivery router gave a hoot. "I can't promise you it'll be an AM delivery if you wait til next week". So we agreed. I was sure they wouldn't get here til near 11.
I was a zombie, but we quickly got everything out of the old fridge and were ready for the delivery. They were fast and in the end we were glad we got it early. After we settled down Rich said "well one good way to get your refrigerator cleaned out....buy a new one". I'd been saying I needed to clean out the old one for the last month or so. We'd done the cooler part, but the freezer was in need of a good cleaning.
I didn't go back to bed because I didn't want to be up late tonight. So I was a zombie most of the day. Rich went over to the soccer field to meet Rich and watch Trevor play. Brooke was there playing with her girlfriends and Lissa was home working on a project. I would have enjoyed it, but I was too tired. I did a few things around the house and not much more.
Called Tommy Miller to see if I could persuade him to go on the HSHS'57 reunion cruise, but I wasn't successful. We're still not sure if we'll go or not.
One of the things I did today was set up my new Wii 'Motion' so I could play the new game 'Resort'. Cathy, it's great. I highly recommend it.
I only did the archery, cycling and frisbee. The cycling is a great work out for the heart and arms. You pedal holding the Wii remote and nunchuck* in your hands and you move them as fast as you can, but not too fast or your Mii** turns blue and you have to stop and drink water which slows you down. I LOVE it.
Brother Jim just called. He's two weeks post radiation and still no sense of taste. He's still hopeful that it'll come back and he knows it can take some time.
Rosemary, Jim did see Pat's 'Legacy', and he again said he was sitting right there and saw Pat run by for that 74 yard touchdown. Mickey McNesby had sent Jim a copy of the legacy. You should frame it and put it in a place where you can read it from time to time. I loved your telling of how you went to Boca and waited for him in his yellow car. The legacy was heart warming making the readers feel like they knew Pat, and I'm sure it made those who did know him feel even closer to him.

*nunchuck is a controller used to move around the screen. If you really care how it got it's name...it's an Asian influence and supposed to resemble a nunchaka which is a weapon of some sort.....I don't know for sure....google it, if interested. The Wii remote is the primary controller. Here's a picture.
**Mii is an avatar designed by the user to look like him/herself. See below...note the choice of eye shape...you can do this with hair color and style also.
Got my seasonal flu shot today and then headed to the Navy Exchange. Picked up two well rounded pumpkins to put on our brick columns at the end of our walkway. Also found a beautiful mum. I'm going to go outside now and take a picture. Be right back.
The top shot is looking up toward our front door and the bottom is looking from our porch toward the street. Pretty good lookin pumpkins don't ya think? They were about $4.50 a piece....not bad compared to other places. The bottom shot is the mum....which still has not fully opened, but I think it'll be pretty.
Also bought an attachment for the Wii...called 'Motion'. It's supposed to be very sensitive to all movements. Only works with certain games which I'm sure was done deliberately so you'd have to buy those games. I bought the new 'Resort'; it has the 'Motion' included. I don't think the kids have this yet, so it'll be something new when they come over.
When I got home there was a phone message from niece Terry in Austin, TX regarding her consult with a Radiologist in her department about my PET/CT and MRI scans.
"He said they were excellent studies. He said he saw the lymph node activity and thought it should be biopsied, but he wanted to check first with the Oncologic Surgeon (cancer surgeon). Oncologic surgeon said it was too small and best course is to wait, monitor again in 3 months....it may even go away"...Yes, I liked hearing that. "If there are changes....we've gotten it early enough" (hope so). So, I guess I am in the 'watchful waiting' mode. I thought that term was used only with prostate ca, but I guess it could apply to any condition.
This report from Austin sounds just like my local oncologist's recommendation. I'll see the endocrinologist in late November to get his take on the 'benign' (assumed benign) tumor on my adrenal. Only symptom I can come up with would be my hair thinning over the last two years...and not just the thinning that accompanies aging. It's so thick that it's not all that noticeable....but it's shedding all the time. Also I've had a fine rash on my upper arms, upper legs and chest for 2 yrs...no one knows what that is either. Maybe it's endocrine related.....I doubt it.
I am so grateful to my niece for getting this second opinion...just like dear friend Pippa got me in '03 in Pensacola when I sent my films to her. It's always good to have connections.
Rich and I decided not to cook the chicken I'd thawed and go to 'Croakers' instead. I had scallops and he had shrimp and pasta. We'll have the chicken tomorrow night when I get home from pottery.
Did I break a sweat? Hell, yes. And that was after getting it out of the box and doing only a couple of the exercises...e.g. lunges and squats. I'll have to ease into these exercises. Heck, I gave my right age and weight....you'd think it would go easy on me. Here's a glimpse of what this is all about. 'Active' is very new...just released in May of this year.
HSHS class of '59 is planning their 50th reunion for sometime this summer during August. While talking with Carole Wimberg on the phone the other day trying to think of ways to get more of her class to join, and then interact with the FACEBOOK page she created for the class, I have been thinking of what they might do.
I know how frustrating it is to get people to write on a blog or a Facebook page. I told Carole (in her case and mine more so), I think it's an age factor that keeps people from joining in. My class has had a website for several years, and Clem (our creator/designer) and I have had very little success getting classmates to add to it. I made a special page for our high school sorority Theta Alpha Chi on one of FACEBOOK's group pages and so far only one person has added to it.
Carole said she thinks most of the people on her HSHS 59 page do read the content, but are reluctant to add to it.
So, today I got the idea to check my yearbook. I graduated two years before the class of '59 and there are several photos of them when they were sophomores. I got to thinking they might get a kick out of seeing some pictures from that far back, and maybe they could even identify who's who in the photos. So, I got my moldy yearbook and scanned several pictures ...then uploaded them to the HSHS 59 FACEBOOK page. I'm hoping it'll get them to think back to some fun times and then get comfortable with adding some memories. Time will tell.
Today was my first session with Tanya (personal trainer). Her emphasis is strengthening the core muscles of the torso. She gave me some good exercises to practice each day. I corrected my earlier blog to reflect her fee. I'd stated it was $55/half hour....WRONG! She met me today as I came into the gym and said "hey Pat, you've already given me a raise"...we laughed. Alex had shown her what I'd written on my blog. Her fee is $30/half hour. I will go again next Thursday and then decide how often I need to go. Heck, I didn't even know Alex still checked my blog. I better be sure to write only nice things about him. And how could I not? I love that place..it's like going to a 'Cheers' bar---everyone knows your name.
Here's a game for you to test your memory if you missed it the last time I posted it. The first time my score was 31 and tonight it was 33. Average is between 30 and 40. At least I'm right in the middle with the average bear. Here's the linkCLICK HERE
When will it ever stop? Rich jr was going to bring the kids over, but thought it would not be a good idea to be on the Interstate with the predicted winds. Later, the winds subsided and he decided to come over.
It was a fun visit. We played 'fool your neighbor' ...a card game which goes by many different titles. Even GrandpaBuck played and Trevor can be seen explaining the rules to him in the video below.
Trevor also showed us two very good card tricks. I could not figure them out, but GrandpaBuck unlocked the mystery of one of them. Brooke played Tux paint and also a few games of Wii.
Lissa called to say she was home safely from her trip to a family wedding in MD.
Here GrandpaBuck gets some addtional instruction. It's neat to watch the kids learn this game. Their aunts, uncles, parents and GrandmaJoan played it at so many family gatherings long before B&T were born. Now, B&T are 'experts'.
CORRECTION: THE OTHER DAY I POSTED A VIDEO OF WHAT I WAS TOLD WAS THE SISTINE CHAPEL. I JUST LEARNED IT WAS NOT THE SISTINE CHAPEL. IT WAS A CHURCH CALLED Piaristenkirche. NEVERTHELESS, IT IS A FANTASTIC VIDEO, AND I'M SURE IT IS A MAGNIFICENT STRUCTURE IN VIENNA.
